Dow Jones Newswires: First Energy CEO Steven Strah to retire

FirstEnergy Corp. said Thursday that Steven E. Strah has decided to retire as the company’s president and chief executive.

Strah will also step down from the company’s board, First Energy said.

The company said its board named Chairman John W. Somerhalder II as interim president and CEO, effective Sept. 16. Somerhalder has been chair since May, according to the company.

First Energy said its board will begin a search of external candidates to identify a permanent CEO.

Also on Thursday, the company said it expects results in the upper half of the guidance range given on its second-quarter earnings call in July.
