The Margin: These Disney-themed children’s clothes are being recalled because of lead-poisoning risk

A recall has been issued for some Disney-themed

children’s clothing sets because of a lead-poisoning hazard.

The Consumer Safety Products Commission (CSPC) said the recall involves Bentex children’s clothing sets in nine different Disney styles, including ones with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The commission listed the recalled sets on its website.

The CSPC explained that the “textile ink painted on the recalled clothing sets contains levels of lead that exceed either the federal lead paint ban or the federal lead content ban, posing a lead poisoning hazard. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues.”

The items were sold at T.J. Maxx

and other stores nationwide and online at

from November 2021 through August 2022 for between $5 and $25, according to the CSPC.

Consumers are advised by the CSPC to “immediately take the recalled children’s clothing sets away from children and contact Bentex for instructions on how to return or dispose of the recalled clothing to receive a full refund.” The CSPC said Bentex can be reached at (800) 451-0285 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday; by email at; or online at or

In response to a MarketWatch request for comment about the situation, Bentex said, “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers and appreciate their understanding in this matter.”
